Change is challenging in any area of life and it can be especially daunting when we’re faced with change within ourselves - but it doesn't have to be.
In this blog post, we define self-development, and give you 6 simple ways to become the best version of you!
Self-development is an ongoing process of adapting to change, discovering, trial and error, accepting and learning.
It is striving to be a better version of you by constantly reevaluating and adapting to the seasons of change in your life!
The goals we set, define what we prioritise in our lives - So, ultimately, they define us.
If we suddenly stopped reaching for our goals, it would be like hitting the factory reset button on ourselves.
If your goal is to own your own home, you would prioritise budgeting to maximise your deposit on a home, if your goal is to be more relaxed, you would prioritise doing things that make you feel calm.
Big or small, setting goals for ourselves gives us something to work towards - It gives us a reason to stay motivated, and it gives us a purpose.
Implementing and practising good habits, lay the foundation for the pathway to achieving our goals.
Understanding good habits, means recognising the ones that contribute to your goals, things like exercising, meal planning, saving money and spending time with family!
Good habits should make us feel… well, good!
They bring out the best in you.
As the saying goes, ‘Turn your face to the sun and let the shadows fall behind you’.
They say you are the sum of the five people you’re closest with - who is that in your life? Are they a good influence? Or the opposite?
The people we surround ourselves with have a huge impact on us - They’re the ones we go to for advice, for support & for a laugh. They have quite a big influence on your personality traits, hobbies & habits.
If you’re constantly spending time with someone who constantly complains, you’re more likely to fall into that habit.
If you’re constantly spending time with someone who wakes up early and goes for a walk, you’re more likely to fall into that habit - See the difference?
You owe it to yourself to surround yourself with positive people and positive energy - Let your best self shine through!
Raise your hand if you’ve ever compared yourself to someone online… 🙋🏻♀️
We are ALL guilty - and it’s about time we stop. It is energy we are wasting on self-loathing when it could be spent on self-love.
The truth is, pictures can be photoshopped & airbrushed, and certain poses can completely change the way a person looks! When we compare ourselves to Instagram Influencers or models on the cover of a magazine we are choosing to idolize and obsess over something that may not be obtainable. And remember, the majority of people are likely to only show the “highlight reel” on social media, not the mundane, the messy, the failures.
Daily affirmations are a good way to wave goodbye to all the negative thoughts you feed your mind, body and soul - stand in front of your mirror each morning and say “I am beautifully and wonderfully made. I lead an amazing, fulfilling life.”
When you invest your energy into self-love, you will find an abundance of happiness.
Just because you graduate high school doesn’t mean you should stop learning.
Learning doesn’t necessarily mean reading history books or solving difficult maths equations - keeping updated on current events is learning, getting to know someone is learning.
We should learn new things because it keeps us engaged in the world - it also allows us to expand our intelligence, making for better conversations.
Whether it be learning new skills, studying something you’re passionate about or even just memorising the lyrics of your fav song, learning is crucial for development!
Picture yourself (or someone you know) at the beginning and the end of high school - Two totally different people right?!
Commit to learning something new every day no matter how small, because not only does it benefit your health but it develops your mind.
How can we move forward, if we cling to the past?
One of the most important aspects of self-development is letting go of the past and choosing to move forward.
Unfortunately, time machine’s don’t exist yet, so we can’t go back in time and fix our mistakes or do things differently - so why do we spend so much time obsessing over things that have happened in the past, or people who have wronged us in the past?
Picture running on a treadmill - no matter how hard or fast you run, you never get anywhere.
This is the same as holding onto the past - It doesn’t benefit us in any way, nor does it promote self-development.
When you choose to let go, you will be able to put your energy into the present, and things that will impact your future!
Choosing to improve yourself doesn’t mean you’re broken - It means you’re putting yourself first!

Inclusivity—all day, every day. If you’ve comfortably gone through life with people referring to you as either he/him or she/her, that’s great! But that hasn’t felt right for everyone. Let’s dive straight into the importance of pronouns and how we can all do our part to be more inclusive:

If you’re not a morning person, you’re about to be! Which is a good thing because how you start your morning really sets the tone for the rest of your day!! ‘Cause think about it, waking up and rolling over to our phones before getting right to work is something a lot of us do (we’ve all been there!), but how does that make you FEEL? It’s a bit of a bummer, isn’t it? Though making simple, mindful swaps with our mundane morning rituals can flip that script!
