Hello…motivation? WHERE ARE YOU?!
If you think you’ll find it by curling up in a cosy blanket or making mulled wine, news flash… you actually might… but we’ll get to that later.
Seriously, though, what can you do to bring some summer energy to your winter motivation (or lack thereof)? If you need some tips to get your brain and body moving, you’ve come to the right place. Here are 5 things to try when your motivation needs a boost during the cooler months:
Chase the sun!
When you work in an office or indoor environment, your chances of seeing the sun go down a lot over the cooler months — which can bring you down too. Having light in your life subconsciously lifts the spirits and boosts motivation, so do what you can to sneak more into your days!
Go for a walk at lunch, eat said lunch under the sun, or simply pull the curtains back if you can. And make sure you’re getting some gorgeous time outdoors on your days off!
Let’s get physical
Moving your body works wonders for the mind – plus, it’s a great way to get warm on an icy day! Lift yourself up and go to the gym, cut some laps in a heated pool, or throw on a YouTube workout to try from the comfort of your own home.
You’ll be feeling energised and ready to take on the world!
Give yourself something to look forward to
Sometimes we slump into a sort of human hibernation. The kind where we just go through the motions until the warmer months roll back. But this is your reminder and encouragement to get out and do things during winter! Go on a little trip, plan an activity you’ve been wanting to do forever, or treat yourself to a nice dinner at that restaurant everyone’s talking about.
Giving yourself something to look forward to boosts morale and brings motivation levels up!
Write a to-do list
In a way, it’s one of our favourite forms of self-care! By writing a to-do list, you’re looking out for yourself — giving yourself attainable tasks to achieve during the day, motivated by ticking those bad boys off the list!
Don’t have a to-do list/accountability buddy? We’ve got you! Check out these planners and pick the one that speaks to you. Your motivation will thank you later.
Do more of what makes you happy
Doing things simply because you enjoy them can boost your serotonin. And when you’re in a good mood, you’re more likely to have more motivation for other activities and tasks!
So maybe you will find motivation under those blankets and with a glass of wine after all…
No matter what, please remember to be kind to your body and mind during these cooler months. If you have a bit of a hate-hate relationship with winter, we have another blog that could help — read that here and give yourself the chance to feel better!
